Check 'em out. Some of the sites I like to visit when I'm not here on S9.
Friends of Size Nine

Cathy Alexander
Cathy's definitely twisted...but that's why I love her! She always keeps me laughing, which is half of the way to my heart. (Those of you who read carefully know the other half.) This link takes you to her blog.

Robert Drake
A man who likes the better things...such as my ribs, my boston butt.....you get the picture. His brain is always on fast forward, and he'll improv you under the table. If you see Robert, get him to tell you the story about the ticket he got while riding an inflatable kyak.

Greg Greene
I don't know Greg as well as I know some of the other folks here...so that means he needs to start showing up earlier for brunch! :)

Michael Ivey
A strange, strange fellow, but pretty darn cool! He's the resident Linux geek at TJS Group (another bunch of generally good folks), and is known for doing odd things like trying to teach his dog to say "I hope they all get Syphilis"... Skip on over to gweezlebur.com and say howdy.

Ben Langberg
He's a fellow who claims to love Pee Wee Herman like a goat in winter. That sets the tone. Ben is a very strange young lad, but we would have him no other way.

Rebecca Vaughn
A very cool motorcycle-riding woman from Milwaukee. She likes to ride 1500 miles in a day, and knows a good stout when she sips one. I'm proud to call her a friend.

Caitlin Waddick
A very nice young lass whom I've known for quite a few years.
Her perkiness is unmatched, and so is the rest of her personality!
Her site includes all kinds of stuff, even a drawing of yer dear ol' Unkie Flipper!
So stop on by, say howdy, and check out "Flip Elvis"...

Joe Winter
A lovely lad who is always willing to share his hash browns. Great pipes, and someday we may even get him into radio.
Well done page....definitely worth a look.

Music

The Penetrators
Some of my favourite folks... Rip Thrillby, Spanky Twangler, Trace Luger, and Illya "Stix" Stechken serve up some O' the finest tunes ever to grace that lil' thing we know as an eardrum.
(Look for a few photos taken by yer dear ol' Unkie Flipper!)

Fez
A guitarist who just walked out of a tiki bar.
A bass player who just stumbled out of an L.A. nightclub.
A keyboard/percussion/fog machine artist who just stepped off of the mother ship.
A drummer who was last seen in the movie 'Casablanca'.
This is Fez. It's a surf/lounge music group with fabulous originals, as well as some medley tunes that borrow from Duke Ellington, the Sesame Street theme, Led Zeppelin, bagpipe tunes, and just about anything else you can imagine. Extremely eclectic. Extremely fun. Mention my name, and they'll just look at you and laugh.

The Chukker
If you've never been there, no explanation is possible. If you have, no explanation is required! Just go there- the web page AND the bar! If you do go to The Chukker, you may even see your dear old Uncle Flip huddled over a pint of Guinness...

Luka Bloom
By far, one of my favourite musicians. If you haven't heard the man, shut down your computer NOW, and go get one of his albums. I think you'll be rather pleased. BTW, if you know of a Luka show ANYWHERE in North America, e-mail me NOW...

Mandorico
If this music doesn't get you shakin' it, you're probably in a coma.
This seven piece from Atlanta specializes in music with strong latin rhythms. Before they get up on stage, I think they they all get hopped up on sugar and other stimulants so they can hurl the tunes across the room in your general direction. Tons of energy, plenty of percussion, ample horns, and a delivery that has an impact like a bowling ball dropped into a vat of Jell-o. To top it off, the vocals remind me of Frank Orrall (Poi Dog Pondering).
This is SERIOUS ear candy.

Guadalcanal Diary
They're back!
Yep... Watusi Rodeo, Trail of Tears, Vista, Gilbert Takes The Wheel, Litany... They're all here. I've waited a LONG time for GD to get back together, and it was worth the wait- they still put on a great show! :)

Jonathan Richman
A wee bit odd and neurotic, but pretty damn cool! If you haven't seen him live, you should be shot! :) Not familiar with him? Check out the film "There's Something About Mary". He's the guitarist who gets it in the end...

Nick Harper
A very amusing fellow, and a great songwriter. His tunes are well worth checking out, as are his live shows.
Needs some work on the powers of observation, though. He took one look at your dear old Uncle Flip and said, "That is one hell of a five o'clock shadow..."

Eddie From Ohio
Okay, so they're actually from Virginia- I won't hold it against them. They still put on a damn fine show!

Black 47
More of the same, but with a less folky sound.
Uillean pipes, sax and guitars. Irish rock-folk mixed with reggae (and a little bit of rap, thanks to our dear Mr. Byrne). You MUST see them live... trust me on this one.

Boiled In Lead
File under rock and reel- take all the world's music, put it in a blender, and crank it up to 78 rpm.

The Great Big Sea Online Kitchen Party
Funky title, great band.
Great Big Sea is a wonderful foursome from Newfoundland. They play energetic, folky stuff that has a strong celtic feel. (I had the great pleasure of seeing them play with The Chieftains in New York, and with Eddie From Ohio opening for them in Boston.)
Check out the album 'Up', if you can find it!

The Red Elvises
Electric balalaikas, pompadours, and great shoes (okay, so you have to see Six String Samurai to get that reference).
This is what would happen if members of the Red Army Chorus started to idolize Buddy Holly.

The Bodhrán Page
THIS is the place to go when I mention the Bodhrán- and you say to yourself, "Just what the heck IS that?"

Bagpipes of the World
Once known as 'Wheeze and Squeeze', they've gone a bit serious.
For non-pipers, there's a nice little section of bagpipe jokes:
Q: Why do pipers always march?
A: They're trying to get away from the noise.

Rhino Records
Any record company that would include Leonard Nimoy doing "Proud Mary" on a compilation disc gets my respect. Check 'em out.

Rykodisc Records
Everything from The Gyuto Monks to Frank Zappa. (I own discs by both, BTW...) They also carry the unequalled grand high SULTANS of cross-cultural music (as well as silly folks), 3 Mustaphas 3.
GO THERE AT ONCE!

Miscellany

WebLink 33/40
This is where I work when I'm not out on S9 missions...

The International Junk Mail Clearinghouse
I can't tell you what you'll find at the IJMC- it changes every day. Go there (NOW!) and subscribe to this daily dose of... well... whatever Dave feels like sending out!
Update: IJMC is currently on haitus. Dave still has the archive up, so you can search on "Flip" and see the dozens of IJMC posts that mention the big kahuna at Size Nine!

Rusty is a homosexual
Just a simple little tale about a boy who likes firemen.
DO NOT read this while drinking- unless your beverage is the same colour as your shirt.

Mingers
Ever seen a really bad picture of yourself? This is a site that'll make you feel a whole lot better about yourself. Plenty of the folks here are good cases AGAINST cloning. The gallery is a hoot- but when looking at it, be sure you follow the drinking tip from the previous link on this page.

Lego Death
Innocent toy, or nightmare death trap from Hell? You decide.

Landover Baptist
Imagine a small town baptist church where everyone knows everyone else, and they're all friends. This is NOTHING like that! :) Only for those who aren't easily offended.

Spiritual Cockroaches
I'm not even going to attempt an explanation- just go there.

Robo-Roach!
Another roach site...but don't expect spirituality here- it's all about electronics.

The Jesus Christ Homepage
Cute... Seems like these days, eveyone has to have a home page!
I think the e-mail link is kinda pointless though. Seems anybody who has knees can get around having to boot-up to send a message upstairs...

Discover what you believe!
This is the place to check out your beliefs, and find out if you should be in a different building on Sunday (or Friday, or Saturday). Simply answer a few questions, and it will tell you which religion is your closest match. If you're not sure about your match, it even has links to descriptions of each, so you can check it out more thoroughly.

Business Buzzword Bingo!
Finally, a way to make those boring business meetings fun!

Progress Quest
So how much time do you have to devote to maintaining your 11th level Demicanadian? With Progress Quest, none! Yes, it's the lazy person's RPG. If you're easily amused or otherwise twisted, this is for you!

Changing The Climate!
Anybody up for an SUV hunt? These guys have everything you need to start your own tagging parties.

Dog Eat Dog Films
Remember "Roger and Me"? What about "TV Nation"? Yep, this is Michael Moore's website- with info on his films, books, and other such highly coveted items. Be sure to join Mike's Militia while you're there.
(There's nothing like social action with a sense of humour! Who could forget Mike's "Johns for Justice" event in New York?)

The Awful Truth
The current offering from Michael Moore. Where else could you find an air drop of TVs over Afghanistan, a choir made of of people who've had laryngectomies, and a corporate crime fighting chicken chasing a talking mouse?

Shri Sai Baba
He lived under a tree in India, and all he got was this web site. :)
All of us at Size Nine are very disappointed that they took the incredibly cool music off of the web site...

The Free Burma Coalition
Myanmar (also known as Burma) is currently under strict military rule- even after the democracy party (NLD) won national elections. The military refused to turn over power to the NLD, which is led by 1991 Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi. The FBC is working to help restore democracy to Myanmar. Its members have travelled there to meet with NLD members, only to flee the country after being declared enemies of the government. Anyone with even a fleeting interest in human rights issues should check out this site- and pay attention to the news from Yangon.

Suck.
A fish, a barrel, and a smoking gun.
Ever had that feeling that something at all levels of our culture is terribly wrong? This is the place for you.
To steal a line from Ivey of RANT fame, this site deserves a medal of honor from God himself.

Rotten Dot Com
If you like autopsy photos and shots of guys who got whacked 12 times with the sharp end of a claw hammer, this is for you. There are some twisted little gems underneath the gore.. But if gore's your thing, there's a lot- my personal fave is the "loser vs. train" series.

Air Sickness Bag Virtual Museum
Some folks have some pretty odd collections.
This is one of the strangest (and coolest) we've ever found.
Check out the bag for Finnaviation- that one alone is worth your trip to this site.

Der Hasselhoff!
Now that you have your air sickness bags ready, it's time for a visit to a David Hasselhoff web site. I feel every web page should have a link to a DH page- especially if it's as cool as this one.
How could a Hasselhoff page be cool, you ask?
THIS one has proof that our dear old Dave is the antichrist!

Navel Fluff
You think YOU collect some odd stuff? Check out this guy's proof that he really needs to get out more.
Also, be sure to check out the cross-eye 3-D photography. It's tough at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's kinda cool.

Look at the giant colon!
After looking at this page, I started pricing plane tickets to Philly...

The Museum of Questionable Medical Devices
Another museum that I *must* visit!
The name says it all- dozens of VERY strange medical (or so they claim) implements...

Wes Clark's "Avocado Memories"
What do you do with hundreds of pictures of your childhood home? Three guesses... This site is much more than that- it's also vivdly told stories of growing up in Burbank in the 60's- when EVERYTHING was painted green. The file of Clark saying "Farouk" is worth a listen, too...

Tent of Doom
Martha Stewart he's NOT.

Roadside America
So you think America's biggest ball of twine is a twisted roadside attraction? You sheltered soul...
RA will shatter your illusions about the heart of America (and the other parts). If you look hard enough on this site, you can even find items submitted by your dear old Uncle Flip.
Five minutes here, and I can't stay indoors- I have to go sit in my car an pretend I'm cruising that black ribbon to some SERIOUS weirdness!

The Big Dig
More than a decade and a half ago, the powers the be in Boston had the bright idea to bury the highway under the city.
The project is still years from completion, and is causing big headaches for the city. Will the delayed gratification be worth the trouble? Stay tuned (for about six more years), the answer is still ahead.

Wallace and Gromit
The official site for that wacky inventor and his silly lil' dog...
It appears the 'Gromit Speaks' web site is no more... but I'll return the link when I find the page again.

Iron Chef
Imagine 'Ultimate Fighting' using food and kitchen utensils instead of kicks and punches. Plenty of good links here- one takes you to the Iron Chef drinking game!
"I think he's going to steam that..."

Engrish
To follow a show featuring bad translations, we have...bad translations. If you ever spend time in Japan, you're bound to see some of these. Heck, I spent just two hours at Tokyo's Narita airport and saw quite a few examples of bad Engrish.
Warning: do NOT drink anything while reading this page!

Dave's Lunch
What did Dave have for lunch today? For that matter, what did Dave have for lunch a year ago? Here's the place to find out. Be sure to check out the Dave cult while you're there...

Waffle House
You can bet some of the above lunches were had at a Waffle House. There's just nothing that compares to scattered, smothered, and covered- and a cup of coffee in which you can stand a spoon on end. :) (Although it loses something when you understand WHY it stands on end.)

The White Wolf Cafe
White Wolf is part restaurant, part antique shop, and part music hall. The marble topped tables are the most unique I have ever seen, but sitting at a table that is the shape of Idaho can be a bit tough logistically...
Not sure what to get? I suggest the Moroccan chicken salad. Trust me on this.

Pizzeria Uno
So maybe you're not too close to Orlando, and the White Wolf is not a realistic option. Chances are MUCH better that you're close to a Pizzeria Uno location. If you're not actually in Chicago, and can't make it to Gino's East, this is THE place for a deep dish pie.

Ideal Cheese
The URL says it all.
Anybody wanna invite me over for a Raclette? :)

I Love Cheese!
Finally, some folks who really understand that cheese is milk's great leap toward immortality!

Punkin Chunkin World Championship
More fun with food! What do you get when a pumpkin meets up with a 100' air cannon? Yep, that would be flying vegetation! (flying more than 3700 feet, to be exact...)
(This sounds like a future S9 mission...)

Cowchip/AL
The home of Norman's Three Virgins Scuppernong Wine!
(Three Virgins Wine is the OFFICIAL corporate sponsor of the Eunice page!)

Gladys The Travelling Cow
Grab your suitcase... Time to join Gladys on her ill-fated adventures!
Might wanna bring some Pepto...Gladys tends to feel ill quite a bit.

The Psychic Chicken Network
Damn, that Ruprecht is good!
I posed some rather elaborate questions, and he nailed each one on the proverbial head.
His psychic test leaves a little to be desired, though.

The official Sherman Alexie site
Yep, that's what they call it... not the most original name, but it gets the job done.
A great source of info about one of my favourite authors. If you've seen the film 'Smoke Signals', and wondered where you can get a "Frybread Power' T-shirt, this is the place!

Guinness Brewing
The official Guinness site! This *IS* Valhalla!

The Oracle of Bacon at Virginia
This site linked Tom Mix to Kevin Bacon in TWO STEPS... THAT scared me!

The End Of The Internet
Yep, just HAD to put it at the bottom. :)
